snow in NYC for English lessons at thesmallguidesite

Snow day in New York City at Union Square in Manhattan

We’ve had quite a few winter storms here in the northeastern U.S. since the end of January. This was what it looked like a couple of weeks ago in New York City. It seems like the storms are lining up one after the other as they move across the country toward the northeastern U.S. So far, we have been lucky in NYC with the brunt of the storms dumping much more snow to our north and east. I love the snow. However, it does wreak some havoc when there’s too much in a short period of time.
  • BRUNT – the main strength
  • DUMP – drop, leave
  • WREAK HAVOC – cause damage
As we begin this second month of the new year, I continue to work on my busy schedule and figure out ways to get organized and be more productive. Luckily, I have been able to do some work on the small English blog, which is now at this new address and is now called English lessons at thesmallguidesite. I’ve moved it to a different platform so it can be more closely linked to the main website. There is still a lot to do and a lot for me to learn, but I’m excited about making this blog tie in more seamlessly with thesmallguidesite.
  • TIE IN – connect
  • SEAMLESSLY – smoothly without blockages
I hope to create more new material soon, especially for those of you who have been requesting pronunciation lessons. I’m learning to value small amounts of time to get work done. Just like learning and practicing a language, doing what you can in little increments is often better than longer periods done rarely. So far it’s working well for me.
  • INCREMENTS – small additions or improvements
What about you? Are you finding time to practice your English? Do you have 10 minutes here and there? Take advantage of these small blocks of time to read old exercises, listen to your own recording of English sentences, or practice the pronunciation of new vocabulary. In the long run, these short periods will mean a whole lot and will do great things to your mastery of English.
Keep practicing!

Joe
